These instructions will guide you through the steps on how to make a origami butterfly. The origami butterfly model is a delicate and elegant origami model that captures the beauty of a real butterfly in a simple, folded form. The origami butterfly is very popular and is folded with paper that has different colors, patterns, textures and sizes. Origami butterflies are often used for decorations, gifts, or as part of more complex origami projects. These instructions will show you how to make a butterfly origami step by step.

- It’s ok to start over.
Paper Setup
- If one side of your paper is white then start with the white side of the paper facing up.
- If your paper has color on both sides then start with the color you want to be the main color facing down.
- For example, the paper above has two colors; blue and yellow. Because we want the main color to be blue; like in the above picture, we placed the blue side of the paper up.

Important: Follow the “Paper Setup” instructions first.
Start with the main color side up. In the picture we want the butterflies’ main color to be blue.

Fold from bottom to top and then unfold.

Step: 3 of 13
Fold from left to right and then unfold.

Step: 4 of 13
Turn the paper over from left to right.

Step: 5 of 13
Diagonally fold the lower right corner to the upper left corner and then unfold.

Diagonally fold from the lower left corner to the upper right corner and then unfold.

Collapse into a water-bomb base.

Fold the upper layer of the lower right corner to the top right half of the top point.

Fold the upper layer of the lower left corner to the top left half of the top point.

Turn over from bottom to top.

Fold the bottom most point past the center of the top edge. This forms the butterflies head.

Fold the overhanging corner over to form the head.

Fold the butterfly along the center line to complete the butterfly.
